The 2024 Pennsylvania Foundry Association (PFA) Annual Business Meeting is officially in the books! We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who attended and contributed to its success. This year’s gathering offered valuable insights, updates, and meaningful discussions on critical issues facing our industry. We’re already looking forward to welcoming everyone back in 2025.
DEP Secretary Jessica Shirley opened the meeting with a keynote address on improvements in the permitting process. Her updates were well received, offering hope for a more efficient, streamlined approach to compliance that will benefit foundries across Pennsylvania. Attendees were pleased to hear that these changes could soon reduce wait times and ease regulatory hurdles.
Dan Engling from Keramida provided an insightful look into Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) challenges, addressing evolving compliance needs and highlighting strategies to enhance safety and sustainability in foundry operations. His presentation underscored the importance of proactive approaches in an increasingly complex regulatory environment.
Dr. John Barkanic followed with a summary on energy evaluations and Foundry Act 129. He highlighted energy efficiency practices and Act 129’s potential to support sustainable operations, resonating with attendees focused on cost reduction and environmental impact.
Stephanie Salmon from the American Foundry Society concluded with a Washington, DC legislative overview, detailing upcoming policy developments relevant to the foundry industry.
